PC Recycling

A recent report by the Gartner Group, a world leader in IT advice and market research indicated that around six million electronic items, including Personal Computers, many of which are still in working order, are being thrown away every year by UK companies. Most of these end up in landfill sites, adding to environmental pollution.
By contrast many community based organisations and schools are unable to afford the computer technology necessary for life and work in the Information Society of the new Millennium. Currently, secondary schools have a computer to student ratio of 1:10, but primary schools have only 1:18, and 33% of the computers in secondary schools and 50% in primaries are over 5 years old, and are therefore hardly suitable for modern IT applications. Even if only half the computers being thrown away were rescued, this could result in every one of the 32,000 schools in the UK receiving 15 free computers every year.
As a member on the DTi national network list of computer re-cyclers, North London ITeC specialises in computer and other electronic equipment re-cycling as part of its PC Support and Maintenance training for the unemployed. |
